Anyone out there have any experience with the Eminence Kilomax Pro-18 Woofer (1,250w RMS / 2,500w Peak 25Hz-600Hz)
Here's a link to a spec sheet;
http://www.speakerrepair.com/Merchan...omax+Pro+1250W
I was wondering how they'd be in my 8184 bins and/or other enclosures.
I still have to try the 8184 with the new port size suggested in another thread.

Greets!
Looks fine with a lower tuning, but I don't remember what I suggested, so not sure if it's low enough for this driver.

indeed i do...currently running the kilomax as my subs. a 28 cu ft inclosure per speaker as modeled on winisd and tuned to 26 hz. i run mine till my altec woofers come in..65 hz, so anything below that is where these reproduce in my system. pushed by a crest 4000 watt amp, they really add to the dynamics of my audio, every once in awhile they will take a deep breath and just shake the house. having these transducers, it would be nice if someone with more knowledge could perhaps work me up a better cab design than a ruffly 2x2x8 box..rest assured this is the only area ive strayed in my loyalty to "our" brand. currently trying to figure out where to put my 816's and newly aquired 828's..in my living room, along with the as-101 and two sets of altec coloumn speakers, 1217 and 840..along with my various diy cabs housing another 6 15's..hehehe

Hi GM Here's what you wrote in another thread when I complained about my 8184's being to slow.
"The 3184 driver is every bit as 'fast' as a 416B down low, but the 8184 cab is tuned relatively high for prosound apps, so is somewhat underdamped in such a large cab and why it sounds so 'slow'. First, temporarily graft on a 6" dia. x 8" long vent to one (make sure there's no air leaks!) and tell us what you think. You may already have what you want"
You also wrote the following which didn't make any sense to me. I have no 3154's. I only have two 3184's for my 8184's
"WRT to the five channels and if you have any more 3154s, probably enough for the LFE channel in some big TL(s)".

Hi valhallax
I'd like to hear the kilomax speaker in a good box. I wonder what it sounds like.
I'd like to see pictures of your rig. I don't know the following... 101, 1217, 840 and "various diy cabs housing another 6 15's" Please explain "diy". Jungle Jim

hey jammin jim..diy means do it yourself..and the boxes ive built for these drivers, 418's and 3156's.. were simulated with the winisd box modeling software. actually a pretty neat program, as you can change frequency and box size and watch the reponse curve change. an as-101 is a heathkit valencia box. im running a set of 418's in that as well..plus the 811 horn. i allways thought the as-101 was a rocking box, till i got my 828's up and running this weekend..omg!!!! theres no comparison. an altec 1217a cab is loaded with 6 8 inch 403 speakers with a university horn, model h-600, driven by a t-50 driver. its a column design and was my first altec experience. i had these for yrs and totally blew everybody elses speakers away! but then eventually blew my drivers...lol anyway my buddy said..'hey u should spend your money on yourself..check out ebay!' and lo and behold a source for my addiction. replaced all my 403's thru there and then found a set of empty cabs..840's. another column design from altec housing 6 8 inch speakers.. i loaded these with 409'ds as they had no hornand the 409 is a duplex. both the 1217 and the 840 are amazing full range cabs but seem to lack below say 50-60 hz. so i needed 15's i figured...pricing drivers thru e-pay is crazy. i opted for what i thought i could afford and stumbled on a pair of mint 418 b's, alinco drivers that represent guitar amazingly well. can you say blazing guitar solos? needing bigger cabs led to the as-101's, which i soon found out wouldnt fit my 511 horns, and then onto some 816'sand eventually the 828's through it all my low end bass was lacking, thundering double kick drums, the resonance of the stand up bass, tho in all reality there arent many notes in the music below 40hz, something ive only just learned. running my system thru 2 rane ac23b crossovers, in a 4 way configuration, where only my kilomax's are played below 65 hz, they dont get alot of the action, but when they do! basically the cabs for my kilomaxs are 2x2x8..with internal bracing adds up to 28 cu ft. ive a 3.5 x 23.5 slot vent cut in them, the speaker is top loade, firing at the ceiling, theyre 12 ft high. even with 4 cu ft of bracing i think i get some loss in effeciency do to vibrations. they really do shake the whole house... but if i could figure out the calrod program or... and by the way, i stumbled upon this driver thru the winisd program, it has a list of drivers in the library, with the theile/small parameters in it, where u can simulated all these diff drivers, and the kilomax had the flatest reponse curve from 26 hz, had to have it, now to make it better. read where bass cabs need aprox 1pound of pollyester fiberfill/cu ft for dampning,and havent been to the fabric store yet for 56 lbs of pillow stuffing..lol
